[*]   Movie: “Red Tails“ - Tuskegee Airmen                                              Now Showing

#############################################

Family and friends:

The Movie Red Tails that depicts the challenges and heroism of the  Tuskegee Airmen

during WWII will be in movie theaters January 20th. This movie is  Produced by George Lucas

(Yes, the Star Wars and Indiana Jones George Lucas).

George Lucas was on the Tom Joyner Morning show today and he discussed  the challenges

he had getting this movie into the theaters because he  could not find anyone in Hollywood

that would invest the marketing dollars to get it  in theaters. The Hollywood investors said

that they just didn't know how well  an "all black action movie" would play to the movie going

audience. As a  result, Lucas, Oprah and Tyler Perry put up the remaining $35 million to get the

film to the  theaters. The total cost of the film is $100 million.

My challenge to all of us is to prove Hollywood wrong and let's get the  Word out to see a

movie that shows the accurate history and determination of  "real" American Heroes.

Now, we will spend the money to see fictitious  Characters like Laura Craft, Indiana Jones,

Luke Skywalker, Jason Bourne, James Bond  and the likes. Let's go out and spend

$300 million to see real American  Heroes depicted in the movies! Vote with your dollars!

Thanks for reading this and please pass it on!

[*]   “Slavery by Another Name” on PBS               Feb. 13

#############################################

“Slavery by Another Name,” narrated by Laurence Fishburne and produced and directed

by Sam Pollard, premieres Monday, Feb. 13, 2012 at 9 p.m. ET on PBS.

Eric Holder’s Wife Tells Her Story in PBS’ ‘Slavery by Another Name’

January 11, 2012

by Cherie Saunders

Description: http://cdn.eurweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/sharon-malone.jpg

Dr. Sharon Malone speaks during the 'Slavery By Another Name' panel during the

PBS portion of the 2012 Winter TCA Tour held at The Langham Huntington Hotel and

Spa on Jan. 4, 2012 in Pasadena , Calif.

*Imagine this…

You do some research into your family tree and discover that your uncle, who was born nearly

30 years after slavery, was one of thousands of black men pulled back into a forced labor system

in which they were arrested – largely on trumped up charges – and compelled to work without pay as prisoners.

Imagine that this “convict leasing” system saw the groups of prisoners sold to private parties –

like plantation owners or corporations - and that it was not only tolerated by both the North and South,

but largely ignored by the U.S. Justice Department.

Now, imagine that nearly a century after your uncle served 366 days in this penal labor system, you find

yourself married to the head of the U.S. Justice Department, who, ironically, just so happens to be the first

African American in the position.

Dr. Sharon Malone, wife of U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, tells the heartbreaking story of her

uncle Henry in the upcoming 90-minute PBS documentary “Slavery by Another Name.”

The film is based on the eye-opening book by Douglas A. Blackmon, which exposes a part of

American history that most folks either had no clue existed, or didn’t know existed to the extent that it did.

“I want people to understand that this is not something that’s divorced and separate, and this

doesn’t have anything to do with them,” Dr. Malone told EURweb exclusively at the Television Critics Association

press tour last week. “If you were a black person who grew up in the South, some way or the other –

whether or not you were directly involved in the system as my uncle was – you knew somebody who was,

or your daily lives were circumscribed by those circumstances.”

Description: http://cdn.eurweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/slavery-by-another-name.jpg

“But more importantly,” she continues, “why I really want people to see this film is because this is American history.

This isn’t just southern history, or African American history. It explains a lot of who we are as a people.

It is a missing puzzle piece for what happened. You had the Civil War, you had reconstruction,

gap, gap, gap, and then you’re at Martin Luther King. This fills in that gap.”

“Slavery by Another Name,” narrated by Laurence Fishburne and produced and directed by Sam Pollard,

premieres Monday, Feb. 13, 2012 at 9 p.m. ET on PBS.

Below, Dr. Malone says she sensed that something was always on low boil with Uncle Henry.

BLACK EXPO

WEBSITE:                  www.blackexpoltd.com

DATE:                                    JULY

LOCATION:              Oakland, CA

GENERAL:

Black Expo 2006 is the largest African American event in Northern California. It is an event that

is designed to promote African American economic development and to offer companies, large and small,

the opportunity to access our lucrative, oft overlooked market. No other event throughout the year in

the Bay Area is designed to focus the spotlight on and contribute to the economic empowerment of the

African American community as much as Black Expo 2006. No other event receives the same level of

community, small business and corporate participation. And no other event is identified as strongly

as a showcase event in our community.

There are many benefits people receive when they attend the Expo. Some find new business opportunities,

some meet old friends and make new ones. Many gain useful information to improve their lives throughout

the year. Some find new jobs and others find new hobbies. And just about everyone finds businesses

they can patronize Expo weekend and throughout the year. And, of course, they have a great time!

Black Expo 2006 draws attendees from as far north as Sacramento, as far south as the Monterey/Salinas

area and as far east as Modesto and Stockton. In addition we have had people come from Los Angeles

and Seattle for the event. Black Expo 2006 is well on its way to becoming a "destination event" with

people from around the country utilizing the timing of the Expo as an opportunity to visit the Bay Area

and come see friends and family.

Black Expo 2006 will be a family affair, and as such draws young and old. The median age range for

previous Expos was 25-45. It is expected that Black Expo 2006 will attract a similar age group (except for College Day 2006).

Black Expo 2006 is an event for the entire African American community and attracts individuals from

throughout the community. We make special efforts to target working class, middle class and upper

class individuals who have disposable income to spend with our vendors. Therefore the average income

for our attendees is higher than the average income in the African American community in Northern California.
